Kinesiotaping

Kinesiotaping for the horse

Kinesio tape was developed the 1970s by Japanese chiropractor, Kenso Kase for use in humans. It is used in humans worldwide in sports medicine, rehabilitation and competition.

Demand also arose in animals, but the tape had to be adapted to the animal scales and the difference in elasticity of skin, tissue and volume.

Kinesiology is the science of movement. The tape allows full freedom of movement, while there is a lifting effect of the skin. The way the tape is applied determines what action it has on the body.

VetKin tape is specially developed for animals, sticks well to the skin and fur, and in the process has a lifting effect of the skin relative to the underlying fascia. This results in decompression of the skin, muscles and fascia.

The lifting effect also affects the neurosensory receptors and mechanoreceptors, relieving pain. Proprioceptive feedback is helped which has a positive impact on the horse’s posture and biomechanics.

The tape provides stability and support, without hindering freedom of movement (due to its elasticity), unlike conventional non-elastic tape.

The tape can therefore be used to reduce pain, for swelling, to improve freedom of movement, to support weak muscles, to relax cramped muscles and to improve fascial function.

Kinesiotaping can thus be used after osteopathic treatment to support the body’s own healing process.

The use of VetKin tape is not allowed during competitions, but it can very well be used between competitions.
